Three Farmer School of Business seniors received the Miami University President’s Distinguished Service Award this weekend, an award reserved for students whose service to Miami and to the surrounding community demonstrate the spirit of being a citizen leader of uncommon quality.
Levi Grimm, Caroline Rowell, and Will Brinley were among 19 Miami students whose service through campus life, community service, intellectual and cultural leadership or student employment embodied Love and Honor.
Grimm, an Information and Cybersecurity Management major and Entrepreneurship co-major, serves as treasurer for Miami's Food Recovery Network, helping facilitate the recovery of nearly 34,000 pounds of food from nine campus dining locations. He is also a student director at the Center for Business Leadership, where he leads peer coaching initiatives and applies leadership lessons to strengthen community impact. Grimm also is co-founder and executive director of the nonprofit organization JEE Foods.
"It is an honor to receive the President’s Distinguished Service Award. While I know that all of us do what we do for the cause and not the applause, the recognition is nonetheless an honor. To me, the award reinforces that our work and contributions made a difference, which is the ultimate goal,” he said. “I'm grateful for the incredible faculty, my peers, and the opportunities that empowered me to support and impact Miami's campus community."
Rowell, a Business Economics and English Literature major, was recognized for her strategic leadership in transforming the Miami University Student Foundation (MUSF), her role as vice president of scholarship and awards for Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity and her academic committee restructuring efforts within Delta Delta Delta sorority, which helped the chapter achieve the highest GPA among campus sororities. She is also a writer for the Miami Student newspaper.
“I am extremely grateful and was incredibly excited to receive the President’s Distinguished Service Award! I am thankful to my peers and mentors all around Miami, particularly within the Miami University Student Foundation (MUSF) and FSB and CAS,” Rowell said.
Brinley, a Marketing major, is the outgoing student body president and an advocate for student mental health. As a member of Miami's Mental Health Committee and the Student Wellness Advisory Group, Will has advocated for new programs and funding for student mental health initiatives. His tenure as president of the Associated Student Government has been characterized by contagious enthusiasm, genuine openness to ideas, and a commitment to inclusive partnerships.
“I’m incredibly humbled and honored to be recognized with this award. I’ve absolutely loved my time at Miami and feel really proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish over the past four years. To be recognized for that work means a lot, and I’m just really grateful for the people and experiences that have shaped my journey here,” Brinley said. “It truly does take a village, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering and overwhelming support I’ve received along the way.”
