The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) awarded a 2024-2025 Superior Merit Award
designation to the Miami University SHRM student chapter for providing superior growth and development
opportunities to its student members.
The SHRM Student Chapter Merit Award program encourages the development of more effective student chapters and distinguishes outstanding activities and projects. Chapters are recognized based on operations, chapter programming and professional development of members, support of the human resource profession, and SHRM engagement.
“The members of our SHRM student chapters embody the future of HR leadership, making it essential to
recognize the pivotal role they play in SHRM’s ongoing success,” said Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, SHRM
president and CEO, in a news release. “The dedication and achievements of the Miami University Student SHRM Chapter demonstrate that the profession’s future is in capable and inspired hands. I commend their accomplishments and their ability to drive innovative programming, professional development, and a growing interest in HR as we adapt to the evolving dynamics of the workplace.”
The chapter hosted its first-ever HR Conference in April, which welcomed nearly 100 students, faculty, and HR professionals for a full day of engaging sessions with industry leaders. Throughout the spring semester, the chapter offered a robust calendar of events including speaker panels, site visits, and workshops on topics like AI in the workplace and HR analytics.
In addition to event programming, the chapter led a mentorship initiative that successfully paired over 100 students with HR professionals across the region, providing real-world insights and guidance. Demonstrating its commitment to professional development, the chapter also sent 10 student representatives to the Ohio HR Conference last fall.
