What are the benefits of joining a business organization or fraternity?
Nearly 50 student business organizations, plus five business fraternities, took part in Meet the B-Orgs at the Farmer School of Business this week. We asked some of the members of those organizations one question: What is the most important thing that you’ve received from being part of your organization?
“The people I met, for sure. From the speakers that I bring in, to the people on my exec board, to all the members in there. It's just nice to meet a bunch of like-minded people” – Jake Sikon
“The most important thing I've gotten out of this organization is my internship this summer and now a full-time career in medical device sales at Medtronic” -- Jess Mihalik
“I don't have a lot of friends that are business majors. A lot of my friends are in the medical field, so being with people who are like minded and are in the same classes as me, so I can talk about it with them, has been huge for me, just to build a bigger friend group” – Amanda White
“I would say the network opportunities. We go to the National Retail Federation student conference every J-term, a great way to meet with recruiters, industry executives and experts. So, it's just a great way to network with not only individuals outside of Miami, but also industry professionals to get that one-on-one experience” – Elizabeth Maher
“I've been able to build a very competitive and strong profile to be able to have the job and internship that I was aiming for” – Felipe Ona
“I've only improved my leadership experience, whether it's through leading a group of at least 50 people throughout our meetings, hosting guest speaker events for our clubs. So, all in all, it has taught me how my leadership style is personally and also what are my areas for improvement” – Kuhshi Shah
“Basic knowledge on financial literacy. I came into the club not knowing anything about the markets or investing in general, and I have come a long way. I'm able to present stock pitches with full confidence now and successfully competing in case competitions” – Scarlett Haynes
“Confidence, business acumen, and a network, all important things” – Ava Nagy
“The importance of being surrounded by the right group of people. I think that like from this club I have, I have found so many super motivated, super highly intelligent people that are super passionate about what they want to do” – Eric Mattey
“The wonderful women around me. I've definitely gained some friends. And then I got my internship through the organization, through the alumni network that I met that worked at my organization” – Jessie Rothman
“I think the biggest thing is getting to be with women who want to drive each other to be the better version of themselves. Getting to build that community has been, honestly, the most amazing part” – Giana Labib
“Number one thing, I think, is the passion that I have for integrating good and social action with my work. I’ve gotten the chance to really learn what it looks like to be a business person and be a social activist at the same time, and I think that's really awesome” – Evan Moody
“I would say networking skills and leadership skills. I have learned a lot about how to lead an organization, and I think that's going to be very beneficial for me in the future” – Audrey Fitzgerald
