FSB professor named Miami's nominee for Mid-American Conference award

A Farmer School of Business Accountancy professor has been named Miami University’s nominee for the 2025-26 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Outstanding Faculty Award for Student Success.

Michele Frank, associate professor of Accountancy, Arthur Andersen Alumni Professor, and director of the FSB Master’s of Accountancy program, has taught at the Farmer School of Business since joining the faculty in 2015.

“Michele was selected by a committee of our Miami colleagues, who were impressed by her commitment to students and to how she goes above and beyond in everything she does,” Accountancy chair Anne Farrell said. “Michele is simply devoted to helping students find a path that excites them and that they'll be successful following -- no matter the student, major, program, or even university.”

According to the Mid-American Conference, the student-focused award, which has a nominee every year from each school in the conference, is distinguishable from academic or research-based awards as it celebrates the commitment of the MAC to a holistic student experience and the creation of an environment that supports success in school and in life.

Eligibility for the award is broad in nature to identify a wide range of outstanding means by which faculty are significantly impacting students, and to create an opportunity to recognize the various ways that student success is supported within the MAC.

“I am a junior Accountancy major with a minor in Climate Accounting and Engineering. Next year, I will complete Miami’s Master of Accountancy program. I am a member of the track and field team as well as the Honors College. Dr. Frank’s mentorship has enabled me to excel in all my pursuits; my path would not be the same without her,” Ella Garvin said in a letter of support to the MAC. “I will carry the technical skills and confidence gained through her teaching with me for years to come.”

“What sets her apart is her unwavering outward focus on student success. She designs her courses with our futures in mind, weaving life-essential topics into the curriculum so that we leave her classroom more prepared, confident, and informed,” Accountancy student Ava Nagy said in her letter. “She not only prioritizes academic achievement but also nurtures our personal growth and well-being. She helps us become better learners, better professionals, and better people.”

“I do believe I put my all into making sure that every student who walks in my classroom is challenged, but also given the tools, support and encouragement to succeed,” Frank said. “I understand that parents are entrusting me with their students, and I take my responsibility to them very seriously.”

The overall winner of the award will be named during the MAC Basketball Championship on March 11 and will be invited to attend the MAC Honors Dinner in May.
