Undergraduates make presentation at conference aimed at professionals, faculty, and graduate students

A pair of Farmer School of Business students joined an FSB senior academic advisor to present at a national conference earlier this semester.

Claire Reasoner, a junior Human Capital Management and Leadership major, and Lilly Baron,  a senior Marketing major, joined J Ravancho at the American College Personnel Association 2026 conference in Baltimore.

The trio presented "Future You Emerging: Mentoring Undergraduate Associates in FYE Courses,” which looked at the impact of instructor mentorship on undergraduate associates who are helping with First-Year Experience classes.

Reasoner and Baron have both been UAs in BUS 106: FSB Success Strategies courses at the Farmer School.

“J was ultimately the person who nominated me to be an UA, and the impact of being recognized as someone who would be good for such a front-facing role, especially in a classroom, was the first thing I'd experienced in college that profoundly accelerated my self-authorship,” Reasoner said. “Because of the impact J has had on my higher education, I was on board for the ACPA conference before I even knew the details of the presentation.”

“I was especially excited about the opportunity because my experience as an undergraduate associate played a major role in my personal and professional growth throughout college, so the chance to reflect on and share that during my senior year felt especially meaningful,” Baron said.

“Our session was attended by individuals ranging from VPs & Deans of Students to First Year Experience Course coordinators to new professionals who'd be teaching their first FYE course in the fall,” Ravancho said. “During our Q & A portion of the session, most attendees made remarks towards how insightful Claire and Lilly were on the topic, as well as how great of a job they did presenting.

Reasoner and Baron were also the only undergraduate students to present at the conference, which is aimed at professionals and graduate students, Ravancho said.

“It was an incredibly grounding experience where I felt a shift that my hard work during the first two years of my college career had really started to take off, where I was asked to share my experiences as an example of success, and this conference was of the first opportunities that have been a concrete example of that,” Reasoner said. “Additionally, it was an incredibly full circle moment for me, as Lilly was actually my UA for my BUS 106 class my freshman year.”

“Attending this conference as a second-semester senior felt incredibly full-circle. It gave me the opportunity to reflect on my own journey at Miami, especially as our presentation explored the before, during, and after of the Learning Partnerships Model,” Baron said. “We discussed themes like confidence and career readiness over time, which made me realize just how much I have grown throughout my college experience. It reinforced how opportunities provided by the Farmer School of Business and the guidance of mentors like J challenged me to grow beyond what I thought I was capable of.”

Ravancho said presenting with the students demonstrated to him the school’s impact on its students.

“I was able to see how well FSB prepares our students through their coursework and co/extracurriculars, to be ready for their careers,” Ravancho said. “Being able to see the direct impact our courses are having on current students in professional spaces away from the classroom really shows how well we are preparing our students to be Beyond Ready for their first steps after Miami and FSB.”
