Unlocking Workday Student FAQs

You can view the answers to questions asked after the release of the Unlocking Workday Student demo.

Does Workday have an AI tool? If so, what will training be like in terms of learning how to use it?

Initial AI features in Workday Student focus on transfer credit evaluations and other administrative support features. As these features are rolled out, relevant staff will be trained in these enhanced capabilities.

Will faculty and staff have the option to opt in/out of AI capabilities?

This will depend on the particular AI capability and function, and how Workday implements it. For example, behind the scenes agents may not be optional.

How can schedulers query available spaces for their classes in Workday?

While Workday does not currently offer a report equivalent to Banner’s SLQMEET query, available locations can be identified through the related actions of a course section. This view includes all locations, not just Registrar-controlled rooms. The project team is exploring ways to further streamline this access.

How will Workday handle longitudinal data, such as faculty headcount/FTE or student course enrollment across multiple years?

Longitudinal reporting will be delivered in our new Tableau/Snowflake environment.

When will longitudinal reporting be available? Will we be able to access Tableau Creator?

We plan on blended longitudinal reporting to be available in the new Tableau format in Fall 2027. Tableau Creator licenses will not be generally available but can be purchased for those departments that need direct report development capabilities.

In the Academics section of a student’s profile, will it display if a student is on the Dean’s or President’s List?

Yes. If a student makes the Dean’s List or President’s List, it will be displayed in the “Additional Period Honors/Standing” field of the Academics section of the student’s profile.

Will students and faculty have access to historical class offerings so they can estimate when a class is typically offered?

The public facing course list will include at least five years of course history, allowing individuals to look back and see offering patterns over that time period.

Will advisors log their visits with students in Workday, or will that still happen in Navigate?

Miami will retain the Navigate system. Navigate will integrate with Workday to provide a seamless advising process. Advisors should plan to continue standard Navigate tasks (i.e. advising meeting scheduling and appointment summaries).

Is Workday replacing Banner Web?

Once the University has fully transitioned to Workday in the fall of 2027, Banner will no longer be used.
