The Ohio Writing Project is one of the longest-running and largest sites of the National Writing Project. Founded in 1980, Miami’s OWP has offered workshops and inservice to over 105,000 K-12 teachers.

As part of the Miami University English Department, OWP supports K-12 teachers across the region and celebrates the professionalism, expertise, and talent of educators. Through workshops, school professional development, writing groups, book studies, and conferences, OWP provides a professional community for teachers based on shared writing, professional readings and practical teaching. 

As part of the National Writing Project, OWP collaborates with K-12 teachers and Universities across the nation. The National Writing Project, founded at Berkeley in 1973, is devoted to improving the teaching of writing and learning from kindergarten through college. NWP has been named one of the most cost-efficient, effective professional development programs in the history of our country and continues to lead the nation in writing instruction grant work and innovative programs.
