Rocky Mountains: Fire, Resilience & Urban Wildlands
Dive into the heart of the largest mountain system in North America with this immersive, graduate-level field course.
Course Overview
Dive into the heart of the largest mountain system in North America with this immersive, graduate-level field course. Using Cal-Wood Education Center’s stunning 1,200-acre landscape—half of which was transformed by the 2020 Cal-Wood fire—as a living laboratory, students will engage in hands-on fire ecology research and field investigations focused on local species.
This new course offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with local experts to explore forest regeneration and the interface of urban spaces, wildfire ecology, biodiversity, and community resilience. Whether you're analyzing post-fire recovery impacts or brainstorming environmental management strategies, this course blends academic inquiry with the adventure of working directly on the front lines of forest conservation.
