Placement Testing

Miami requires placement tests for most incoming students. Placement tests must be completed before course registration. If you do not complete placement tests before the start of orientation, your course registration will likely be disrupted.

English Placement Test

International undergraduate first-year, transfer, and graduate students are generally required to complete English writing and speaking placement tests. These placement tests assist academic advising and graduate departments with helping students select the appropriate English courses.

• If you start your studies in the fall semester, you will receive instruction in May or June via email about the completion of this task.
• If you start your studies in the spring semester, you will receive instruction in December via email about the completion of this task.

An exception may possibly be made for students from a native English-speaking country or students who have obtained an undergraduate degree from a native English-speaking country.

Math Placement Test

New undergraduate first year, transfer and ACE students may be required to take the Math Placement Test.

 ELC Students attending Miami Regionals should contact the English Language Center at mumelc@miamioh.edu to schedule a math placement test.
