Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities—Essential Functions

  • Receives and unloads supplies and materials; checks invoice and shipment to ensure accuracy.
  • Enters shipments received into computer system; stores supplies and materials in appropriate manner and location.
  • Issues materials and supplies according to set procedures; enters records of materials disbursed into computer system.
  • Assists customers of storeroom; answers questions and provides information.
  • Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner; performs cleaning duties; maintains any equipment.

Reporting Relationships

Direction Received: Reports to administrative head of unit's storeroom (Manager, Assistant Manager, Supervisor, Assistant Director, etc.)

Direction Given: May provide occasional monitoring/training or functional guidance to a group of student employees

Minimum Requirements

Requires a high school diploma or GED and six months of storeroom experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics

  • Knowledge of receiving procedures
  • Knowledge of computer operation
  • Knowledge of inventory control procedures
  • Driver's license required

Working Conditions

Physical effort usually requires considerable walking, standing, and lifting of materials weighing 25 to 50 pounds. Periodic assignments given which entail dealing with modestly unpleasant physical situations.
