Internships

Internships provide valuable experiential learning that complements classroom learning. A variety of volunteer opportunities are also available in the community.

Students can earn course credit, ranging from 0 to 6 credit hours, depending on the number of hours worked at the internship site.

Departmental Honors

In the Departmental Honors Program, advanced students work closely with a faculty advisor to develop and conduct an original research project. Students prepare an original thesis, which is evaluated by their faculty advisor and two other readers, and present their work at a public forum.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities

Independent Study

Up to 40% of Psychology majors work on independent research projects under the direction of a faculty member. During the academic year, these students earn independent study credits. Summer opportunities are also available.

Interested students should contact faculty directly about opportunities to conduct research.

Course Based Research Opportunities

The Psychology department offers research opportunities through courses such as First Year Research Experience (FYRE) and Broadening Undergraduate Research in Behavioral Neuroscience (BURP-BN). These are excellent experiences for students seeking hands-on research experience.

Become a research participant

Students enrolled in Introductory Psychology can serve as a participant in ongoing research studies. Participants gain a better understanding of psychological research methods and witness current developments in the field first hand. Participation also contributes to the discipline of psychology by providing researchers with a valuable source of information.

The Center for Psychological Inquiry

The CPI supports academic excellence and career transitions through specialized tutoring, career networking opportunities, and resources for applying to graduate school.
