Miami’s Professional Institute for Management Education (PRIME) is a two-class, four-week summer program designed to introduce non-business majors to fundamental concepts in business. Taught by faculty in the nationally-ranked Farmer School of Business, PRIME students will develop an integrated knowledge of how business works, strengthen their networking and career search skills, and apply these new skills while working on a project for a business client.

We know you are passionate about your field of study. Miami PRIME will combine that passion with the practical business skills needed to round out your college experience and prepare you for whatever career you choose. Program cost is the standard Miami University winter/summer tuition rate for four credit hours.
The online portion offers much flexibility while retaining all of the hallmark features of Miami PRIME. There will be daily work including watching pre-recorded lectures, participating in discussion forums, and taking quizzes. However, you can do this on your own schedule. There will be some events requiring you to be present at a given time (e.g., resume consultations), but you can sign up for a time that works around your schedule.
The in-person portion will consist of daily class sessions, networking events, and a client project that will include a visit to and presentations in front of the client at the end of the program.
Upon completion, students will have earned 4 credit hours, satisfying the Experiential Learning (EL) requirement, as well as developed the skills and confidence to be successful in their chosen field. This program has been designed for all liberal arts, education, science, and engineering students who do not have business foundation courses.
The program costs the standard rate for summer tuition (depending on the year you started at Miami) for either 1 credit (BUS 303 only) or 4 credits (BUS 302 and 303).
Miami PRIME is designed to give you a solid framework to complement your degree and make you more valuable to a wide variety of organizations. Through an engaging mix of lectures, case studies, team projects, and activities, you will apply your knowledge to real-world scenarios and learn how to work efficiently and effectively in teams.

Even if your choice of career is not "business," understanding business basics provides you with an invaluable competitive edge. Artists need to sell their work, engineers design for companies, physical therapists work for medical groups, teachers work with budget constraints, all positions are impacted by business operations and decisions. The more you understand the business you are in, the better you will be able to perform in that business.
Miami PRIME will allow you to combine that passion with a powerful, and practical skillset for understanding the business aspects of whatever career you choose. During the program, you will be introduced to the major business functions, improve your networking skills, and see it all tied together while working for an actual corporate client.
Miami PRIME consists of two courses: BUS 302 and BUS 303. These courses fulfill the credits for the "Business Overview" requirements towards a General Business Minor.
Students can pair Miami PRIME with an Accountancy Minor to be eligible to apply to Miami’s Masters of Accountancy program.
Any non-business major student in good standing with his/her college or university is eligible to enroll in BUS 302 and BUS 303. The program is open to students outside of Miami University.
The summer housing link will be available in late April/early May. PRIME students can login and select the "Summer Housing" link and register. After they complete the summer housing application, University Housing will assign them and contact them 3-4 days before arrival with assignment information. Single rooms are very limited, PRIME participants will likely be paired with another PRIME participant as a roommate.
Students who are pursuing degrees in liberal arts, humanities, education, or the sciences are ideal for this program. We believe this program enhances the student’s opportunities during recruitment upon graduation and for admission into graduate school.
Students are freshmen through seniors in undergraduate programs or students who have recently graduated with a non-business degree.
Some students have held part-time jobs in the past that had very flexible work schedules and hours.
