Miami University is nationally ranked for the number of students studying abroad, enabling students to earn academic credit while pursuing global opportunities. International students who participate in education abroad programs outside the U.S. through Miami University are eligible to maintain their F-1 or J-1 status.
Review Education Abroad at Miami
Students who study abroad at Miami’s John E. Dolibois European Center (MUDEC) located in Luxembourg during fall or spring semester enroll full-time in Miami coursework.
Students approved to enroll at a university abroad in a full course of study through a co-sponsored or exchange program during fall or spring semester are registered in a Study Abroad placeholder course for the duration of the experience, transferring credits back to Miami University after completion of the program.
Miami University also offers an array of faculty-led programs during winter and summer terms. Enrollment is optional during break periods for continuing international students.
International students enrolled in a graduate program of study that requires a thesis or dissertation may need to conduct research in other countries. If you will be conducting research abroad during a fall or spring semester, to maintain your F-1 or J-1 status you still need to be enrolled in research coursework appropriate to your degree while you are outside the U.S. Please check with your academic advisor about course enrollment options and consult with ISSS.

Important Note for Final Semester of Study: If you plan to pursue study or research abroad during your final term of study, please speak with ISSS first and schedule an appointment.
