Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities—Essential Functions

  • Supervises staff; establishes schedules and assigns tasks; enforces University policies and procedures; monitors and evaluates performance.
  • Oversees operations of unit; set priorities; reviews completed jobs; ensures that any necessary changes or corrections are made.
  • Initiates the purchasing of parts and supplies for unit; researches cost and availability of items; maintains inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Maintains personnel files and other departmental records and files.
  • Develops and implements training programs for staff.
  • Ensures that facility meets appropriate safety standards.

Reporting Relationships

Direction Received: Reports to Director of Building Maintenance or Physical Facilities Manager

Direction Given: Direct supervision of classified employees

Minimum Requirements

Requires an associate's degree in technical field, or the equivalent in coursework and training, and four years of technical experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A 3rd Class Stationary Engineer's License is required. Driver's license required.

Working Conditions

Physical effort usually requires considerable walking and standing with some lifting of materials weighing 25 to 50 pounds. Periodic assignments given which entail dealing with modestly unpleasant physical situations.
