Interfraternity Council (IFC)

The Interfraternity Council (IFC) at Miami University is home to recognized fraternity chapters committed to leadership, scholarship, service, brotherhood, and student involvement. Miami’s IFC community offers opportunities to build friendships, develop leadership skills, engage in philanthropy, and become part of one of the nation’s most historic fraternity communities.

IFC Recruitment Overview

Miami uses a deferred recruitment process for IFC fraternities, allowing students to spend their first semester adjusting to college life before joining a fraternity.

In addition to the general eligibility requirements to join a fraternity or sorority at Miami:

  • You must formally register for primary recruitment prior to the deadline of Jan. 2.
  • IFC requires a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75.
  • The Introduction to Fraternity and Sorority Life course must be completed prior to the beginning of recruitment to be eligible to participate. You will receive an invitation to join the course after you register for recruitment.
  • Special conditions apply for those who join a fraternity and seek to be exempted from living on campus in the residence halls. Learn more about the fraternity second-year exemption process.
