National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC)

The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) at Miami includes historically African American fraternities and sororities rooted in scholarship, service, leadership, and cultural impact. NPHC organizations have a longstanding tradition of fostering academic excellence, civic engagement, community empowerment, and lifelong brotherhood and sisterhood. At Miami, NPHC chapters create opportunities for students to build community, celebrate culture and identity, lead meaningful initiatives, and contribute to positive change on campus and beyond.

NPHC Recruitment and Intake

NPHC Intake Overview

NPHC organizations use a membership intake process rather than formal recruitment. Membership intake is an individualized process through which students learn about an organization’s values, history, and expectations before becoming members.

Each chapter manages its own recruitment or membership intake process. Timelines, requirements, and events may vary by chapter throughout the academic year.

If you are interested in joining an NPHC organization, you are encouraged to:

  • Attend informational events
  • Participate in public programs and service initiatives
  • Connect with current members
  • Learn about each organization’s values, history, and mission

NPHC Eligibility

In addition to the general eligibility requirements to join a fraternity or sorority at Miami, students interested in joining an NPHC organization may also be required to:

  • Attend the NPHC seminar
  • Participate in the organization’s membership intake process
  • Meet chapter-specific academic standards

Timeline and Events

Students are encouraged to attend events, meet chapter members, and explore organizations throughout the intake process.
