Athletic Scholarships

Miami offers athletic scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students in the following sports:

Scholarship Amount

Athletic scholarships are awarded by the Athletic Department as either Full Ride or Partial scholarships.

A Full-Ride scholarship covers tuition, mandatory fees, a standard double room, the Diplomat minimum meal plan, and required books. This is the maximum amount a student-athlete may receive under NCAA rules.

A Partial scholarship covers a specified percentage of the full grant in aid amount.

The total of all financial aid, including athletic awards, academic merit scholarships, and outside scholarships, may not exceed the NCAA cost of attendance. If total aid exceeds the allowable maximum, the athletic scholarship will be reduced to ensure compliance with NCAA regulations.

Renewal Requirements

Athletic scholarships may be awarded as either single-year or multi-year agreements in accordance with NCAA regulations and institutional policy.

A single-year scholarship is renewable at the institution’s discretion and will be renewed unless there is a permissible reason for nonrenewal under NCAA rules.

A multi-year scholarship guarantees the award for the specified term, provided the student-athlete remains eligible and in good standing under NCAA and institutional requirements.

Scholarship Nonrenewal

A scholarship may not be renewed if the student-athlete:

• Becomes ineligible for intercollegiate competition due to their own action or inaction.
  
• Fraudulently misrepresents information on an application, National Letter of Intent, or financial aid agreement.
• Engages in serious misconduct that results in a substantial disciplinary penalty, as determined by the institution’s regular student disciplinary authority.
• Voluntarily withdraws from their sport for personal reasons.
• Violates a non-athletically related condition outlined in the financial aid agreement or a documented institutional rule or policy, including academic standards, athletics department policies, or team rules.
• Provides written notification of transfer to another institution or is granted a release of the contact prohibition associated with signing an athletics aid agreement.
  • Financial aid may not be reduced or canceled until the end of the regular academic term in which written notification of transfer is received. If written notification of transfer is provided between regular academic terms, such as during winter or summer break, the institution may reduce or cancel financial aid immediately.

Renewal or nonrenewal notifications will be issued on or before July 1 each year. If a scholarship is not renewed, the student-athlete will be provided an opportunity to appeal the decision in accordance with institutional policy.

Winter and Summer Term

If you are planning to take a winter or summer course, you must work with the Athletic Department to determine if it will be covered by athletic aid.
