Over the course of the weeklong workshop, students will learn different techniques of throwing simple forms and then altering them. Techniques include throwing, slab building, paddling, carving, cutting, pushing, darting, and trimming. There will also be discussions on surface treatment such as slip application, carving and stenciling.
This class is intended for students who have taken at least one wheel throwing class however all skill levels are welcome. Demonstrations will take place twice a day and the rest of the day will be devoted to students working on the forms themselves with guidance from the instructor.

Basic tools found in introductory to ceramics tool packets (Sponge, rib, needle, wire)
Exacto knife
Fine tooth serated rib (xiem or mudtools both carry)
Large sponge for cleaning wheel area
Apron or towel for drying hands
All workshops have a studio fee. Fees are collected at the end of the workshop and payable by check or credit card. MU no longer accepts cash.

Stuart Gair received a history degree from Ohio University and completed an MFA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Recently, Stuart was a long term Artist In Residence at The Archie Bray Foundation, where he created a new body of work, taught classes, and explored the surrounding area. Gair has taught at Harvard University, Carbondale Clay Center and Colorado Mountain College. Recently, he has transitioned into a full-time studio potter and is setting up a studio in Athens, Ohio.
