Placement of interns in supervised practice is for the express purpose of attaining the ACEND Core Competencies through appropriate educational experiences developed between the Dietetic Internship Director and designated personnel at supervised practice sites. Students will not be used to replace regular employees. This policy is shared with all preceptors at supervised practice sites and is monitored by the Dietetic Internship Director and the designated coordinator at the site.
Completion of all supervised practice hours is required by all interns. Interns are required to notify the program director and appropriate preceptor in the event of an illness or other event preventing attendance. Interns may also be permitted an absence if requested before the semester begins and the missed hours can be completed at another time convenient to the preceptor. All days missed and whether they were subsequently completed are noted on the formal evaluation completed at the end of the semester for each intern. Hours spent in other activities primarily in graduate courses is not used toward completion of supervised practice. A form for tracking supervised practice hours is required to be completed, signed by the preceptor, and submitted each semester.
