Guided tours of local historic areas come to Miami's campus

Learn more about Miami and Oxford history through Miami guided walking tours held at 10:30 a.m. each Saturday in May.

Miami locations will be included this year, the sixth year of the walking tours that are sponsored by Oxford’s Historic and Architectural Preservation Commission (HAPC) and the Smith Library of Regional History, with support from the William Holmes McGuffey Museum.

This year’s tours include the following stops on Miami’s campus;

  • May 3: Fraternity histories at the Beta Theta Pi Alpha Chapter Museum: meet at the Uptown Park Pavilion
  • May 10: Lewis Place with guest tour guide Mrs. Valerie Hodge: meet in front of Lewis Place, limited to 25 people. Advanced reservations are required and can be made with Laura Henderson, henderlb@MiamiOH.edu  or 513-523-5813
  • May 24: The history of Cook Field with interior tours at Cook Place and Wilson Hall: meet in northeast corner of Cook Field

Tours will be led by Mike Smith and Laura Henderson of the HAPC, Steve Gordon of the McGuffey Museum and Valerie Elliott of the Smith History Library.

The tours are free, open to the public and last about an hour.
